President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast for three days in honour of late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 others who died in an air crash on Friday.
He also approved Monday as a work-free day for members of the Armed Forces.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said the national flag will fly half-mast from Monday to Wednesday.
The statement titled, ‘National flag to fly at half-mast in honour of late Chief of Army Staff and others that have paid the supreme price’ read, “His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorised that the national flag should be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences with effect from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th May, 2021.

Good marketing move by the EU, first to casually appropriate the name of the continent, then to appropriate Europe Day.
The first Europe Day was on 5 May, 1964. It was held by the Council of Europe to celebrate that organisation and its commitment to human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
Then along came the European Communities, the EU at the time, and they thought we will have that, their first was in 1985. The EU does hold Europe Day on a different day from the Council of Europe.
